| Description | : | A burial register for this churchyard (1874-1983) is available at the Wakefield branch, West Yorkshire Archive Service. Built in 1863 by John Kirk of Huddersfield at the expense of Joseph Hirst of Wilshaw the building is of highly eclectic design, having some German Romanesque forms with the elaborate central tower roof of French gothic type, and the windows typical of the Italian Renaissance. The church was built as a memorial to Mary, daughter of Joseph and Eleanor Hirst. Mary died in childbirth in 1859 and the foundation stone was laid in 1862 by her mother. |
