| Description | : | The Topcliffe Congregational Chapel was founded in 1653 and continued through 1746. Early burials were in this cemetery but after 1665 the new Tingley Burial Ground near the Tingley mansion was used for Topcliffe burials. The Yorkshire historian, William Smith, describes the Topcliffe Congregational Chapel in his 1881 book “Old Yorkshire” (volume 1, page 106-109). He makes the claim that this Chapel was formed by the first dissenting Congregationalists in West Yorkshire.
