Mr. Widdel, who was 72 years old, had been ill since Dec. 15. Born June 4, 1865, in Cook county, Illinois, son of Henry and Louise Widdel, he came with his parents, when still an infant, to Bennington township, traveling in a covered wagon. He had been a farmer all his life and was active until taken ill in December. Mr. Widdel was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Klinger, Ia., where he also married Miss Emma Diercks on June 6, 1890. At the time of his death he was a member of Immanuel Luther church of Waterloo. Surviving are the widow; a son, M. J., Route 3; three daughters, Mrs. Anna Griffith, Dewar, Ia.; Mrs. Esther Mastain, 406 1/2 Eleventh street east, and Mrs. Ruth Schermerhorn, Route 5, Waterloo; five grandchildren; two brothers, John, Readlyn, Ia., and William, 326 Argyle street, and two sisters, Mrs. Louise Manning, Lone Rock, Ia., and Mrs. Sophia Fink, of east of Waterloo. Following a private funeral service in the country home, rites were performed at Immanuel church. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery. Six nephews will serve as casket bearers: Albert, Ernest, Edwin, Louis, and August Widdel, and August Fink.
