Benjamin James Hill was born in Hebron, Nebraska, March 6, 1896, and passed away in Lincoln, Nebraska, February 20, 1950, at the age of 53 years, 11 months and 14 days. He was married to Hazel Eggert at Hebron, Nebraska, October 12, 1920. Mrs. Hill preceded him in death July 17, 1943. To this union three children were born: Mrs. Marguerite Myers, St. Louis, Missouri, Betty Ann of Chicago and William Henry of Superior. On May 23, 1948, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Leone Wehrman Swanson of Nelson, Nebraska. He is survived by his wife, three children; one step-son, Jack Swanson of Nelson; a sister, Mrs. David Simms, and brothers, William and Ralph Hill, all of Hebron. Mr. Hill was educated in the Hebron schools, graduating with the class of 1915. He attended the University of Nebraska until his enlistment in the United States Navy during World War I. After his discharge from the service he moved to Superior and was associated with the Kohr Clothing Company. In 1926 he purchased Mr. Kohr's interest and operated the business under the firm name of "Ben Hill Clothier" until his death. Mr. Hill was devoted to his family. Their welfare and happiness were his most important mission in life. He conducted a successful business and at one time served as president of the clothiers division of the Federation of Nebraska Retailers. Active in the civic life of his community, he served several terms on the Board of Education. He was a member of the Methodist church (sic), American Legion, the Masonic lodge and Shrine. His business was never so important but that he always found time to greet or help a friend. His many acts of kindness, although not publicly known, will always be remembered by those befriended. His store was a welcome meeting place for all his friends. Those who moved away never failed to "visit awhile with Ben" on their return trips home. Perhaps what endeared him most to his many friends was his love for children, in all of whom he seemed to take a personal interest. His understanding of the common man and his problems, his natural sense of humor, were a joy to all who were privileged to know him. Funeral services were held February 22 at the Denny Funeral Home in Superior, with the Rev. Ervin H. Unvert of the First Methodist church (sic) of Superior, officiating.
