Description	:	For many years, Ella suffered from TB. In 1918, she traveled to Livingston, California, to stay a period of time with her brother, Mort, and his family in the hope that the arid climate would improve her health. She returned briefly to Iowa to visit with her children and grandchildren on the Berry farm outside of Bertram. Apparently she was exposed to the scourge of the great influenza epidemic which was plaguing the nation and the other parts of the world over a period of many months. In 1918, she traveled to Livingston, California, to stay a period of time with her brother, Mort, and his family in the hope that the arid climate would improve her health. She returned briefly to Iowa to visit with her children and grandchildren on the Berry farm outside of Bertram. Apparently she was exposed to the scourge of the great influenza epidemic which was plaguing the nation and the other parts of the world over a period of many months. Upon returning to Livingston, she became bedridden with the influenza and died as one of the epidemic's thousands of victims. Her son, Alfred Raymond Berry I, left the family farm at Bertram via the train to be with his mother. He, too, became ill with the influenza while in route at Reno, Nevada, but continued his trip towards California. When the train arrived in Turlock, California, he was so ill that he had to be removed from the train and died in that town. Ella died on October 3, 1918, and her son, Alfred, died seven days later on October 10. Addison Berry had the bodies of his wife and son returned to Iowa. The joint wake was held in the home of John W. Hunter in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and burial was in the Berry plot of Campbell Cemetery.
