C.E. Enderich, aged 46 years, well known and long time resident of Telluride and the San Juan section, died in Denver at noon Tuesday, Aug. 29, according to telegrams received by his brother, George Enderich, late Tuesday afternoon. Death was due to complications following an operation.
Mr. Enderich spent the greater part of his life in and about Telluride and was well and favorabley known here. He was a man of sterling qualities and numbered his friends by the hundreds.
Christian Edgar Enderich was born in Chicago, Ill., on Nov. 14, 1875. He was taken to Silverton by his parents when a mere infant. The family was one of the first to settle in Silverton and a few years later moved to San Miguel, being among the first families to locate in this section. Mr. Enderich made his home here with his parents and when only 14 years of age he secured a position as a cook at the old Mendota mine. He followed that occupation for a number of years and later worked at a majority of the larger mines of the district as steward and boarding house boss. He worked on the Sheridan, Smuggler, Bullion Tunnel, Contention and for eight years was in complete charge of all the boarding houses of the Primos Chemical Co. at Vanadium, Bear Creek and Fall Creek. About two years ago Mr. Enderich moved to Denver with his family and since that time he has been engaged in operating a hotel. He had been in ill health for a number of years and last May submitted to a serious operation for relief from kidney trouble. He seemed to improve for a time after which his condition took a turn for the worse. He became worse about 10 days ago, and Monday of this week began sinking rapidly, the end coming at noon Tuesday.
Mr. Enderich is survived by a wife and son, Edgar, aged 11 years, who were at his bedside when the end came. He also leaves a brother, George Enderich of Telluride. Mr. Enderich was preceded in death by his mother, father, a sister and a brother Frank, and a by a daughter Wilma, who died at Vandadium about 7 years ago. The remains will be brought back to Ridgway Thusday night by his wife and son and his brother-in-law W.D. Jay, and interment will be in the Ridgway cemetery Friday morning.
Mr. Enderich was a member of three Masonic bodies in Telluride, Telluride Lodge No. 56, A.F.& A. M., Telluride Chapter No. 28, R.A.M. and Telluride Council No. 10, R.&S.S.; also a member of the local lodge of Knights of Pythias and the local Lodge of Woodmen of the World.
