Description	:	Clarence P. Alquist, 83, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Friday, November 22nd, at 5:20 p.m. in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee. He had been cared for under the Hospice Program. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 25th, at 10:30 a.m. from the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Pastor Gerald Aamot will officiate and burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. Mr. Alquist was born on February 25, 1913 at Marcus, Iowa to Axel & Anna (Nelson) Alquist, the youngest of four children. He was baptized on June 7, 1913. They lived south of Marcus until he was the age of six and then moved to a farm in North Dakota. He was confirmed in the rural Herbey Lutheran Church in North Dakota on September 4, 1927. At age sixteen, they moved to Timber Lake, South Dakota to farm and be near relatives. In 1936, they moved back to the Cherokee area. On April 21, 1942 he was married to Helen Marie Nelson at the Bethlehem Lutheran Parsonage in Cherokee, Iowa. They were blessed with three children, Shirley; Larry and Connie. He and Helen started farming east of Cherokee in 1950. A special interest of his was raising and selling Black Angus cattle. They continued to farm until retiring in 1975. They continued living on the acreage with Clarence employed part-time with R.E.C. and Pioneer Hybrid Seeds. They moved to their present home of 312 Sesame St. in Cherokee in July of 1995. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and a former member of the American Aberdeen Angus Association, Cattleman's Association, Farm Bureau and a 4-H Leader in Cherokee County. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Agnes Johnson and a brother Leo Alquist Sr. He is survived by his wife Helen, a son, Dr. Larry Alquist and his wife Jane of Hampton, Iowa, two daughter, Shirley Harris and her husband Larry of Shawnee Mission, Kansas and Connie Mohn and her husband Jim of Cherokee, Iowa; six grandchildren: Chad Harris, Kelli (Harris) Gross, Betsy Harris, Shelly Alquist, Kendi Mohn and Alicia Mohn; one sister, Esther Dahlgren of Selby, South Dakota; a sister-in-law, Pearl Alquist of Meriden, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
