Clovis "Barry" Buchanan, 65, of Amsterdam, died June 23, 1999, in Trinity West Medical Center at Steubenville after an extended illness. He was born December 30, 1933, in Toledo, a son of Forest Buchanan and the late Clarice (McKibben) Buchanan. Barry was raised in the Methodist Church and was a former member of Wesley Evangelistic Church of Kilgore. He was a member of the Amsterdam Church of God. He was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan with a degree in music specializing in the pipe organ. He received his masters degree at The Union Theological Seminary at New York City. He became the minister of Music and choir director, teaching the pipe organ at Asbury Theological Seminary of Willington, Kentucky, for 17 years. He composed several musical pieces and operettas, of which one was based on the early Church of England and it was performed in England by his choir. Barry always directed his chairs from his pipe organ console. In addition to his father, he is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Blanche and Raymond Paul Bright of Amsterdam; three nieces; and two great-nieces. He was preceded in death by three uncles, Dr. Clovis McKibben, John and Frank Buchanan. Funeral services were held Monday at 10 a.m. in the Hope Church at Amsterdam with Pastor David Guess, Pastor Mike Thurston and Rev. Clint Quillen officiating. Burial was in Kilgore Cemetery.
