Cornelius Alvin Ridenour, eldest son of Nicholas and Nancy Cline Ridenour, was born in Rochester township March 21, 1858 and passed away at the home of his son in Tipton April 28, 1934 having lived 76 years, 1 month, and 7 days. The early life was spent on the farm home of his parents where he attended the rural schools and later became actively engaged in farming. December 28, 1881 he married Anna Barclay and the new home was established near Tipton. To this union five daughters and two sons were born. Luella and Nellie E. Murray together with the mother have preceded him in death. There survive, Miss Ida, Minnie Wright, Ray and Alvin of Tipton and Helen Winslow of Waterloo together with seven grandchildren. Mr. Ridenour leaves also a sister, Mrs. Anna Canarr of Muscatine and one brother N.L. Ridenour of Mallard, Ia beside a number of distant relatives. Mr. Ridenour was always actively interested in the community and its interests. He had served as township trustee, County Recorder and City clerk and weighmaster of Tipton. In early life Mr. Ridenour united with the Rochester Methodist church but in recent years had transferred his membership to the Reformed church in Tipton, being the church treasurer for a period of time. Neal Ridenour, as he was familiarly known, was a man of upright principles, strong convictions and sound judgments. His home and family were always foremost in his thoughts. To them he leaves a memory of a kind and loving father and the community loses a highly respected citizen.
