Description	:	Daniel Curtain Bellis, 64, son of Daniel and Mary Bellis, died at Elkader Oct. 29. Funeral services were held the following Tuesday at a funeral home there, and burial was in the Illyria cemetery in the family lot beside his father and mother. He was born June 22, 1875, in Luzerne county, Pa., and came with his parents to Iowa in 1883. The father bought a farm west of Clermont. Funeral services were held the following Tuesday at a funeral home there, and burial was in the Illyria cemetery in the family lot beside his father and mother. He was born June 22, 1875, in Luzerne county, Pa., and came with his parents to Iowa in 1883. The father bought a farm west of Clermont. He attended the district school and assisted his father on the farm, later working for the neighboring farmers. In 1899 he was married to Mary Meyers of Randalia. He farmed till March, 1911, when he had a slight accident which resulted in the loss of his right leg. When he became able to work he drove a fish wagon for a time, but did not like this work. Later he had a shop at St. Olaf and repaired shoes and harness. When his health no longer permitted him to work he went to the Clayton county home, where he died. Mr. Bellis suffered greatly with rheumatism, and had not been well for several days. That Sunday he helped with the work and seemed in good spirits. Shortly after 1 p . m. he was stricken with a heart attack, and died. He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter Rose, Mrs. Lewis Benson of Postville; Walter of Waterloo, N. Y., and William of West Union. One son died some years ago. Eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive besides one brother, T. G. Bellis of West Union, and three sisters, Mrs. George Havenstrite of Clermont; Mrs. Anna Preston, Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Cora Hanna of Cleburne, Texas, and many other relatives and friends. Attending the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. George Havensi rite, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Havenstrite, Thomas Bellis, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Mathews, Mrs. Roy Learn, Mrs. John Learn, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wagner, Mr. and Mrs. Eth Guyer and son, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hanson and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Learn. West Union Argo - Gazette 11/15/1939
