Word was received here Monday morning that Darius Orr, 81, lifelong resident of this community, had passed away at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs G. L. Opper, in Riverside, Ill., following a brief illness. Mr. and Mrs. Orr had gone to the Opper home shortly before Christmas and had expected to spend the winter there. The remains arrived here this morning and funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Schutte Funeral Home, with the Rev. J. Ian Fraser officiating. Burial was made in Postville Cemetery. The pallbearers were Fred J. Miller, Fred A. Lange, H. H. Douglass, Harold Stone, Arthur Foels and Albert Foels. Mr. Orr was born on June 04, 1859, the second son of James and Margaret A. Ellison Orr, in the small log house one mile northeast of Postville, near the present family home. He received his education in the public schools in Postville, and in 1880 he rented the old homestead from his father, later acquiring it through purchase and this has since been his home, with the exception of several years the family lived in Postville. Through his twelve years of service in the Iowa National Guard, during part of which time he was Colonel of the 4th regiment, Mr. Orr was ofttimes referred to as Col. Orr. On November 26, 1889, Mr. Orr was married to Miss Bertha Harris and together they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary a little over a year ago. To them were born four daughters, Mrs. George L. Opper, Riverside, Ill., Mrs John A. Palas, of Postville, Mrs. Esther Swenson, of River Forest, Ill., and Mrs. Eva Orr, of Dayton, Ohio, who together with Mrs. Orr survive him. Mr. Orr is also survived by one brother, Ellison Orr, of Waukon; and four sisters, Mrs. Wm. Luel, Mrs. Fred Welzel and Miss Olive Orr, of Postville, and Mrs. A. E. Cornell, of Los Angeles, California.
