He graduated from Fox Valley High School in 1965 and from the Indian Hills Auto Mechanic program in Centerville, Iowa in 1967. He was born September 1, 1945 in Cantril, Iowa to Walter August and Suzanne Pierre Birchmier. He graduated from Fox Valley High School in 1965 and from the Indian Hills Auto Mechanic program in Centerville, Iowa in 1967. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served three tours of duty in Vietnam. Dennis married Carol Ann Runyon on August 21, 1971 at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Eldon, Iowa. The couple lived in Bloomfield raising three children. Dennis was an auto mechanic for Harris Motor and later for Boone Body & Service, retiring after 30 years of working on automobiles. He was also a woodworker and made many pieces of furniture for area families over the years. Outside of work, he loved spending time with his family and traveling. Dennis was a member of the St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Bloomfield. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carol Birchmier; daughter, Tamra (Randy) Rominger of Bloomfield; two sons, Matthew (Jessica) Birchmier of Woodstock, Georgia, Kelly (Julie) Birchmier of Plain City, Utah; four grandchildren with another due on September 1; two brothers, Ernie (Jean) Birchmier of Cantril, Iowa, Richard Birchmier of Centerville, Iowa; and a sister, Marjorie Koellner of Milton, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Helen Birchmier and Jeanette Jones. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Father Patrick Hilgendorf officiating. Burial with military rites performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion will be at the Troy Cemetery in Troy, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Monday with a Christian Wake Service at 6:00 p.m. followed by family visitation until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church and Hospice of Wapello and Davis Counties.
