Only child of Emory B. and Mary Dora Krenkel McKee. Her mother died when she was 2 years old. Only child of Emory B. and Mary Dora Krenkel McKee. Her mother died when she was 2 years old. When she was about 8, she moved with her father to Rowley, Alberta, Canada where he was a blacksmith and farmer. When she was about 17, her father moved to Vancouver, British Columbia. Dee stayed in Rowley with her Uncle Harry Leroy "John" McKee and his wife Bertha, and her Aunt Kate McKee who was only 10 years older than her (& who a year later married William Wilson). Dee stayed, worked the land, and lived with her Aunts and Uncles until she reached the age of 23 when she decided to move back to Kansas. She most likely lived with Flossie McKee & Harry Chapel as her son said he thought of them as grandparents. She met Carl C. Asmussen and they were married 9 January 1923 in Beloit, Mitchell, Kansas. His family's land straddled on both sides of the Mitchell and Cloud County lines. They had one son. Edith Lillian McKee Asmussen died from a thyroid condition in Gleason Hospital in Larned, KS where she had gone for treatment. ++++ OBITUARY, Glasco Sun, Glasco, KS Edith Lillie McKee, daughter of Emory B. and Mary Dora (Krinkel) McKee, was born in Mitchell county, south of Simpson, December 12, 1896. When she was only two years old, her mother died. Several years later, at the age of eight, she moved to Canada with her father, remaining there until she was 23 years of age. In these years, she became a member of the First Methodist Church in Rowley, Alberta, Canada. Moving back to this region, she was united in marriage with Carl Asmussen on January 9, 1923, in Beloit. One son, Loris, now of Oxford, MS, came to bless the life of this home. She spent the remainder of her life here in the Glasco and Simpson communities, passing away last Tuesday in Larned, KS, after a long illness, at the age of 62. In addition to her husband, Carl, and son, Loris, she leaves to mourn her passing two half-brothers, Frank McKee of Mission, KS, and Norman McKee of Cambria, CA, also one half-sister, Mrs. Dorthea Pitts, of Fresno, CA, two aunts, Lena Asmussen of Simpson, and Mrs. W.A. Wilson of Rowley, Alberta, Canada, several nieces and nephews, a number of other relatives, and many, many friends. Funeral services were held Thursday, September 24, 1959, at 10:00 o'clock a.m., from the Glasco Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Baker as officiant. Pallbearers were Lemoine Tubach, Roger Dean Sams, Wilbur Sams, Bob Louthan, Ralph Means, and Darrell Haley. Interment was in Glasco Cemetery, with the Dean Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. --- |
