Description	:	Edward F. "Bud" Wanek, age 97, of Neligh, Nebraska, passed away on July 13, 2016 at his home. He was born to Edward and Anna (Schmid) Wanek on March 5, 1919 at Neligh, Nebraska. Edward graduated from Neligh High School in 1937 and the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy in 1941. On May 16, 1942 he was united in marriage to Lois Chipman at Rockport, Missouri. "Bud" Wanek, age 97, of Neligh, Nebraska, passed away on July 13, 2016 at his home. He was born to Edward and Anna (Schmid) Wanek on March 5, 1919 at Neligh, Nebraska. Edward graduated from Neligh High School in 1937 and the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy in 1941. On May 16, 1942 he was united in marriage to Lois Chipman at Rockport, Missouri. Bud enlisted in the United States Navy on April 23, 1943 at Omaha, Nebraska, and was discharged on November 28, 1945 at St. Louis, Missouri. Lois and Bud celebrated 54 years together. Bud owned and operated Wanek Drug Co. in Neligh for 41 years having purchased it from his father in 1945. Wanek Pharmacy is still in operation after opening in 1917, making it one of the oldest businesses in Northeast Nebraska. Bud was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Neligh. He was involved in many organizations through the years, such as ESU #8 Board of Directors, Neligh Power Board, American Legion and VFW, National Association of Retail Druggists, Nebraska Retail Pharmacist Association, Neligh Chamber of Commerce, and Admiral in Nebraska Navy. He has been a loving example for his community and family. Survived by: his children, Carole Gooden, Jim and wife, Cindy Wanek, Don Wanek, Diane Wanek, and Bob Wanek; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and sister, Catherine Kelter. Preceded in death by: his parents; and wife, Lois in 1997. Funeral Service on Monday, July 18, 2016 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Neligh, Burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Neligh.
