Read More	It is with the deepest regret and sympathy for the sorrowing family that The Chronicle brings to its readers this week the death of Edward Hix, one of the most highly esteemed members of his community. His death has brought sadness to the whole community, as well as deepest grief to the stricken relatives. As noted in last weeks issue of the Chronicle, Mr. Hix was taken very suddenly ill Friday, March 23, and submitted to an operation at the local hospital to obtain relief. For several days the operation seemed to be successfully and there was every hope for his recovery. Wednesday afternoon he was not so well and rapidly grew worse until Thursday morning a second operation was performed, but to no avail. He was beyond medical and surgical aid and gradually failed until death came at 9:05 Saturday, March 31. Funeral services were held and the last mark of respect and esteem paid to the departed by the family and friends at 2:30 Monday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal church. The service was in charge of his pastor, the Rev. Herman Nedtwig of the Richland Methodist church, and the sermon preached by Dr. L.J. Brenner of Sioux City, district superintendent of this district. Dr. C.H. Van Metre, pastor of the local Methodist church, assisted in the service. The loved one was laid to rest in the Odebolt Cemetery members of his Sunday school class of young men, acting as active and honorary pallbearers. The active bearers were: Dwight Meyer, Vernon Buehler, Clifford Raasch, Harry Kessler, Orville Buehler and Leonard Einspahr. Honorary bearers were: Emmett and John Buehler, Elmer Kessler, and George Krahl. Edward Hix was born on a farm in Boyer Valley Township, Mary 30. 1876. At his death he had reached the age of 46 years and 10 months. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hix, and when he was about 5 years of age the father passed away, leaving the mother, Mrs. Margaret Hix alone to rear her family. Mr. Hix probably had but little remembrance of his father. When Mr. Hix was but a lad the family moved to this township, where his life has been passed. February 25, 1903, he was united in marriage with Emma Katherine Buehler, also of this township, and twenty years of happy married life they have passed together. The wife, together with the two sons, Warren and George, born to Mr. and Mrs. Hix are left to mourn the one whose life meant so much to the home and whose going has left them desolate indeed. His daily life was the exemplification of Christian character and principles and upright living. He was honored and esteemed by all who knew him. What he was to his family, only those who were near and dear to him know. As death approached he fully realized his condition and met death with the calm, firm faith that only the true man of God can know. To those who are left it seems a sad and terrible thing that his life should be taken while he was in the prime of his manhood and it is indeed difficlut to understand, but there is One who is higher than we, Who doeth all things well, and in Whom we must trust. The deepest sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved wife and sons, the aged mother, and the brothers and sisters in their great loss. He leaves besides his wife and sons, his mother, Mrs. Margaret Hix of Storm Lake, four brothers and two sisters; Mrs. Eva Dusenberg of Garner; George, Charles and Conrad of Storm Lake; his twin brother, Henry, who resides on the adjoining farm, and Caroline of Storm Lake.
