Cottrill of Jamison conducted the services, a short service being held at the home west of Naper and at 2 o'clock from the Naper hall. The remains were laid to rest in Koll Crest cemetery at Naper, beside his two brothers, with services conducted by Gilead Lodge No. 233, A. F. & A.M., of Butte, of which he had been a member for many years. The attendance at the service was one of the largest ever held in this community. The large crowd present showed his wide acquaintanceship and to know him was to be his friend. He had lived in the western part of Boyd county for forty years, having taken up a homestead southwest of Naper in 1893, where he resided at the time of his death. He made his home on this farm from the time he moved to the county until 1920, when his mother, who had lived with him, passed away. In 1921 He moved to Naper where he was actively associated with the Farmers State Bank until 1932, when he returned to the homestead. Ellis Harndon Hughes was born in Ontaria, Canada, January 19, 1868, and passed away January 30, 1934, aged 66 years and 11 days. When he was two years of age, he moved with his parents, Charles W. and Emily L. Hughes, t Benton Harbor, Michigan, at which place his father died. In 1890 the family moved to Chicago. In 1893 he came to Boyd county. In May, 1925, he was united in marriage with Lida M. Snider, who survives him. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Frances Oakey of Claremont, California, and Mrs. Carrie Stewart of Hipass, California, and by here step-children, Mrs. Iona Purrington of Beemer, John snider of Ocean Bean, California, and Luree Snider at home. "His life was gentle and the elements so mixed in him that Nature might stand up and say to all the world - this was a man." We join with the great host of friends in extending sympathy to the sorrowing relatives, who may be comforted somewhat in the knowledge that his memory will long be cherished by the entire community, who will always remember him for his kindness in all things.
