Son of Moses Horton Curtis and Sarah Ann Spence OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, May 27, 1937 ELMER CURTIS Elmer Curtis, well known citizen in the vicinity of Norwood, died at the Harkens hospital in Osceola, Iowa, on Thursday, May 21, 1937, at the age of 64 years, 6 months and 14 days, after an extended illness. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Eldon McCannon, nephew of the deceased, were held at the Norwood U. B. church Sunday afternoon, and six nephews carried the remains to its last resting place in the Fletcher cemetery. Elmer Curtis, son of Moses H. and Sarah Ann Curtis, was born in Lucas county, Iowa, two miles north of Norwood, on November 7, 1872. He grew to young manhood in that locality and was married to Dora Overton on December 25, 1895, moving immediately to their home, one mile northwest of Norwood, where they spent their entire married life. To this union seven children were born, one of whom a daughter, Florice, died in infancy. When nineteen years of age he was converted and united with the U. B. church at Norwood, which he attended faithfully as long as his health permitted. He was a kind and loving husband and father, a splendid neighbor and friend, a true Christian, whose influence will long be felt in the lives of all who knew him. One of his last loving messages to his children was "Be good and meet me in heaven." He leaves to mourn his death his wife, two daughters and four sons, Mrs. Iva McNeer, of Norwood; Mrs. Charles Reeves, Chariton; Moses Curtis, Dwight Curtis and Duane Curtis, of Norwood; Mavern Curtis, of Liberty Center; two granddaughters, Arwilda and Geraldine Curtis; three grandsons, Paul Wendell and Eldon Curtis and Lorrain McNeer. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Mary Bennett, Chariton; Mrs. Martha Burger, Long Beach, Calif.; and Mrs. Eliza Gray, Riverside, Calif.; three brothers, Rev. E. W. Curtis, Des Moines; Zack Curtis, Lacona; and Jonathan Curtis, Indianola. The family greatly appreciated the beautiful flowers, the very large attendance at the funeral and the many acts of kindness shown them in their sorrow. Obituary courtesy of Charles M. Wright
