He died at the Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital at the age of 96 on Jan. 9, 1996. Dec. 31, 1899, he was baptized and Palm Sunday, April 5, 1914, he was confirmed at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church in Schessel, Germany. (Source: St. Paul Lutheran Church Records, Byron, NE) ===================== Hebron Journal Register (Hebron, NE), January, 17,1996 Fritz William Schlueter, son of John and Anna Gerchen Schlueter was born on Dec. 19, 1899, at Lauanbruch, Germany, one of eight children. He died at the Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital at the age of 96 on Jan. 9, 1996. Dec. 31, 1899, he was baptized and Palm Sunday, April 5, 1914, he was confirmed at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church in Schessel, Germany. He entered WW1 on June 6, 1914, in the German army and was stationed in Poland and France. He served two years and two months. While he was in France his mother died and when he was in Poland his father died. After his discharge from the army and unable to find work, he immigrated to the U.S.A. He arrived in the Byron area on Oct. 15, 1923. Upon arrival, he stayed with the Fritz Kirchhoff family and worked for them a few years and repaid his debt to the Kirchhoff family before he started farming on his own. On Nov. 26, 1926, he was united in marriage to Emma Kroeger at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Byron. To this union six children were born. The couple made their home on a farm west of Byron. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church since 1923. He was a member of the church council and also was on the building committee when St. Peter built their new church in 1953. He enjoyed farming, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma, on June 6, 1976, his parents, three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include two sons, Marvin and his wife, Henrietta of Hardy, Arlen and his wife Adalene of Superior; four daughters, Maureen Clark and husband Ralph of Courtland, Kan., Opal Frye of Overland Park, Kan., Lola May Huwaldt and husband Don of Uehling, and Karen Aksamit and husband Gary of Lincoln; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Adolph of Schneverdingen, Germany and Dietrich of Fallingsbossel, Germany; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Services were held Jan. 12, 1996 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, northwest of Byron, conducted by Pastor David Nordstrom. Interment was made in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, northwest of Byron.
