Description	:	George Hart, born in Illinois, came with his parents to Wapello County, Iowa, in 1851. His father, William, died in 1855. George's mother came to Union County in 1860, making her home in New Hope Township. George was raised on a farm and received his education in Ottumwa. George was a veteran of the Civil War. He enlisted at Winterset on 20 Nov 1861 at the age of 18. Mustered in Co I 4th Iowa Cavalry on 5 Dec 1861. Re-enlisted and re-mustered 19 Dec 1863. Promoted to Fifth Corporal on 1 Jun 1865. George Hart and Rebecca Elizabeth Trester were married 31 Dec 1868 in Madison County, Iowa. They had nine children. The family came to Dodge Township in the spring of 1870.
