Gerald was born on December 1, 1921 on the Nebel family farm 1 mile north of Noble, Iowa. He was the third of four siblings, born to Samuel & Mollie (Roth) Nebel; Clayton, Inez, Gerald, Evelyn. Gerald was born on December 1, 1921 on the Nebel family farm 1 mile north of Noble, Iowa. He was the third of four siblings, born to Samuel & Mollie (Roth) Nebel; Clayton, Inez, Gerald, Evelyn. He also grew up on that same farm and lived there for 62 years. Gerald participated in the Civilian Public Service as alternative service during World War II. He had great memories of the time spent in Kansas and Colorado during his CPS work. Upon returning from CPS, Gerald farmed with his father. On February 18, 1951, Gerald married Kathryn J Roth. They farmed together and raised a family of five children on the farm north of Noble. Preceding him in death were two of his children, Bethene Stewart, Tucson, AZ, and Keith Nebel, Wayland, IA, his parents and two siblings. Surviving are his wife and three children, a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law, twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Gerald was a lifelong member of Sugar Creek Mennonite Church. Gerald and Kathryn were active in the Crusaders Sunday School Class and Gerald lived the teachings of Jesus related to peace and social justice. Gerald could be described as "quiet in the land" and instilled a strong, can-do work ethic in his children and grandchildren. A memorial service was held at Schowalter Villa Chapel, Hesston, KS on April 17 at 10:00 AM with a celebration of life and burial at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church cemetery, Wayland, Iowa.
