Harold Helmuth Hieb was born July 15, 1919, at Hosmer, S.D., to Rudolph and Mary (Walth) Hieb. He attended and graduated from Hosmer High School in 1938. He attended Northern Normal School from 1938 through 1939 and then attended Spearfish Normal School from 1939 until 1940, when he received his teaching certificate. Harold taught for one year in a rural country school. He married Thena Magdalena Buechler on March 14, 1942, at Aberdeen, S.D. He became employed with K.O. Lee in 1944 and continued his employment there for 40 years until the time of his retirement in 1984. After retiring, he spent his time refinishing antiques, especially brass beds and lamps. He also spent a great deal of time in his rose garden. Following the death of his wife, Thena, on May 24, 2001, he became a resident of Nano Nagle Village and then of Beverly Healthcare Center in Groton. Harold was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, where he was a member of the church council and taught Sunday school for several years. He was also a member of the Eagles Club in Aberdeen. His memory lives on with his seven daughters, Virginia (Jeffrey) Cook, Oakland, Calif., Sharon (Tom) Platt, Warminster, Pa., Kathy (Jim) Ridgway, Osborne, Kan., Marilyn (Jim) Fiala, Durango, Colo., Sheila (Charlie) Moore, Scottsdale, Ariz., Sonya Janson, Lebanon, N.H., and Roberta (Bob) Rohl, Aberdeen, S.D.; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, twin infant daughters and several siblings. Casketbearers will be Harold's sons-in-law. Honorary casket bearers will be Harold's daughters.
