Friday February 22 in Community hospital west Marshalltown after a long illness. He had been a hospital patient since February 4 but, was hospitalized intermittently since May 1972. His death was attributed to cancer. A memorial fund has been established. LeeRoy Collins former pastor of First United Methodist church. Toledo, officiating Mrs. John Gray sang "Beyond The Sunset" accompanied on the organ by Mrs. LeeRoy Collins. Active pallbearers were Lee Jones, Paul Hunter, Donald Musel, Merle Olsen, Richard Zobel, and Keith Weitzell. Honorary pallbearers were Walter Davis and Al Lorenzen. The Masonic lodge of Belle Plaine was in charge of Masonic Memorial services at the funeral home. Burial was in National cemetery near Vining. Mr. Cherveny was born April 7, 1905 in Clutier, the son of Frank and Emma Peterka Cherveny. He attended the Elberon schools and graduated from Toledo high school in 1923 and grew to manhood in the Elberon community. August 16, 1930 in the Little Brown Church in Nashua he was married to Miss Elvera A. Tanck of Keystone. The couple resided in Keystone two years then owned and operated a grocery store in Elberon for 22 years. They sold the business in 1956 and two years later, moved to Toledo. In 1958 Mr. Cherveny was named to the position of secretary of the Bohemian Mutual Insurance Assn with his office in Tama. He later became president of the Association resigning last year due to ill health but remained a member of the board of directors until his death. He was a member of the United Methodist church the Methodist Men's Club of Elberon, Hope Masonic Lodge No 175 of Belle Plaine the Cedar Rapids Consistory the El Kahir Shrine of Cedar Rapids, the Tama County Shrine Club and El Mecca Shrine of Waterloo. He is survived by his wife, a daughter Mrs. John (Jane) Pulkrabek Cedar Falls, four grandchildren a sister Mrs. Emil (Gladys) Novak Chelsea. A son, don preceded him in death.
