Iola Maye (Orme) Hedinger was born December 12, 1927, on the family farm south of Nodaway, IA. Iola was the daughter of William (Bill) Orme and Rosena (Moser) Orme. She grew up attending the Nodaway Public School. While in high school, Iola sang in the choir, played the piano, and filled in for teachers who were absent. She also taught school in rural Adams County after graduation. On December 25, 1946, Iola was united in marriage to Russell Paul Hedinger at the Nodaway United Methodist Church. Two children were born to bless this union, Susan Elaine and Lonnie Gene. Russell and Iola farmed in Adams County all of their married lives. Iola was a 'true farmer's wife' and worked with Russell on the farm, enjoying the lifestyle farming provided their family. They loved attending church together and working in the garden. Iola taught piano lessons to several neighborhood children. She also taught Sunday school and Bible school. Iola spent many hours canning and freezing the produce from the family garden. She also loved being active in politics. Iola had been a member of the IAn's for Moral education; Christian Coalition; and the Republican Party. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Left to cherish Iola's memory are her two children, daughter, Susan Lantz and husband Richard of Shenandoah; son, Lonnie Hedinger and wife Lorna of Nodaway; granddaughter Angela Lantz Fox and husband Dan of Lincoln, NE; grandson, Christopher Lantz and wife Jana of Kansas City, MO; great-granddaughters, Olivia Fox and Kate Lantz; and a great-grandson, Ty Lantz. Preceding Iola in death are her parents, Bill and Rosena Orme; her loving husband Russell Hedinger in 1999; and infant great-granddaughter, Riley Fox; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Albert and Vonnie Hedinger. Although Iola will be greatly missed, her love and inspiration will live on through her family.
