Description	:	Iola Nixon, born October 29, 1914 in Chapman, Kansas to Andrew McCellan McCracken and America Elizabeth Reed departed this life January 20, 2013 having attained the age of 98. Iola attended public school and high school in Chapman. After graduation in 1932, she was the high school secretary for 3 years. She worked in Abilene for the United Power & Light Corporation from 1935 till her marriage to Arthur (Arty) Nixon on January 1, 1937 in Milford, Kansas. Arty passed on January 30, 1985. Iola worked in Dickinson County Register of Deeds office from 1953 as Deputy for 19 years and as Register of Deeds for 7 years until her retirement January 12, 1981. She was baptized and joined the Methodist Church when she was 8 years old, was Supt. of the Primary Department of the church in Abilene for 8 years, was a member of B.P.W. for 25 years and a charter member of ABWA for 20 years. Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. R.G. (Carolynn) Richardson, Austin, Texas, son-in-law, R.G. (Rick) Richardson , Austin, Texas, 3 Grandchildren, Greg Richardson, Chicago, Illinois, Troy Richardson, and his son Joseph, Austin, Texas, and Shanna Herr, husband Michael Herr and their children Sarah Elizabeth, Emily McCall , and Shelby Herr of Aurora, Illinois and other nieces and nephews. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene with Reverend Annie Ricker officiating. Burial will be in the Abilene Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, Kansas 67410.
