Mr. Allison received a doctorate degree in philosophy from Harvard university. He had earned Phi Beta Kappa honors, highest academic laurels, at Northwestern university in Evanston, Ill., where he obtained bachelor's and master's degrees. He was a member of Sigma Nu social fraternity at Northwestern. Previously, he had taught literature at Wheelock college, Boston; at Mary Washington college, Fredricksburg, Va., and at State college, Montgomery, W. Va. A member of numerous literary clubs, he also had written many articles concerning English lieterature. A U.S. Navy officer during World War II, he belonged to the First Baptist church here. Born Nov. 4, 1916, in this city, he was the son of John and Madge BERNETHA ALLISON. Surviving are a son, John ALLISON, Rochester; his mother, this city; a brother, Harry ALLISON, San Francisco; an aunt, Mrs. Mildred MEYER, Rochester; three first cousins, Mrs. M. G. (Julia Ann) SCHLEIGER and Allison HAIMBAUGH, both of Rochester, and Mrs. Isabel SNYDER, Gary, and nieces and nephews. Last rites are pending at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home, awaiting the arrival of the mother, who had been spending the winter at Moorhead. ----- Published in The Rochester Sentinel Tuesday, April 5, 1966 James L.
