She was the daughter of Hiriam and Harriet Burt and was born October 8, 1840 in Courtland County, New York. She was united in marriage to Amaze G. Patterson at New Marshfield, Ohio, December 10, 1857. To this union were born nine children, Frederick, Herbert Edmund, Frank Albert, Cora, Amenia, Leonard, Hattie, Lee Cally, and Harold Amzi. Of the nine, three died in infancy and only three survive her. Mr. and Mrs. Patterson moved to Harper County in 1880. After being successfully engaged in the cattle business for some ten years, they retired and moved to Harper, where Mrs. Patterson has made her home since. Mrs. Patterson lost her husband by death 14 years ago. These years widowhood with their advancing years and declining strength have been lived cheerfully, hopefully, faithfully, and helpfully here among her own people and her many friends. Such are some of the obits and external facts concerning this good woman. The deeper and vastly more important hidden things of this life may not be so described. They are known in their entirety only to the all wise Heavenly Father. We may say of her that Mrs. Patterson was a woman of finest sort of Christian Faith. Her keenest delights and her greatest pleasures were in the things of God’s word was her treasure and daily companion. Here was a woman who cherished and cultivated and practices her Christian Faith. That as it worked itself out in her life made her known universally among her acquaintances for her kindliness, generosity, and good cheer. Early in life Mrs. Patterson made a public profession of her Faith in Christ and was received into the Presbyterian Church. Her association with this denomination was continued throughout the remainder of her life. Since taking up her residence in Harper, she has been a valued member of the local congregation. The members of the church and the community in general join with the bereaved family in mourning her death and extended sincerest sympathy.
