Read More	CALLED TO HIS REWARD At ten o’clock Monday evening John O. Negley, a highly respected citizen of this community, passed to his eternal reward. He had been a victim of liver complaint for several years and his health for the past year had been on the decline more rapidly than ever, until the climax was reached by the settings in of blood poisoning about a week prior to his death. He moved to this city just a year ago, renting the Lathrop property on West Fifth Street with the expectation of buying a place in town this spring, having rented his farms out of town where he had lived for eight years. He was well and favorably known both in this city and in the community south of here and regarded as an especially good man. He was united with the Christian Church of this city about a month ago. Deceased was 58 years of age having been born in Fulton county, Illinois, September 18, 1845. He went to Kansas in early manhood and was married to Miss Matilda Latimer in Franklin County, that state, December 25, 1870. They moved to Illinois and from there to this community where they since resided. Aside from the wife he leaves three children to mourn his departure. They are Arthur Negley of Cantos, Illinois; Beetle Negley and Mrs. Maude McCoy, both of this vicinity. It was desired by the relatives and church members that the funeral obsequies be held from the Christian Church, but owing to the prevalence of smallpox a very brief service was held from the house yesterday morning at 11 o’clock, Rev. S. M. Perkins officiating. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery. The wife and children share the sympathies of the whole community. Villisca Review, Villisca, Iowa, Friday, February 26, 1904, page 1
