John White Newman II, son of John White Newman and Nora Carlton Newman, was born December 28th, 1907, in Albia, Iowa. His family moved to the Brooklyn area in 1913 and Jack received his education in Brooklyn graduating from the Brooklyn High School. He served with the US army during World War II. Mr. Newman was united in marriage to Frances Pearl John who died March 13, 1935. On March 12, 1947, he was united in marriage to Marlene Newman in Unionville, Missouri. He was a florist and farmed near Guernsey and they moved into Brooklyn April 1987. Mr. Newman was a member of Francis Gallagher American Legion Post #294. Surviving are his wife, Marlene; one son, John (Jack) Newman III of Nevada, IA; one daughter, Mrs. Diana Rhinehart of Oskaloosa; one sister, Mrs. Arlene Smothers of Cedar Rapids; three granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Frances; two sisters, Marguerite and May Armstrong; and two brothers, James and Jarold. Source: Nevenhoven Funeral Home records
