Description	:	John W. Glessner, 98, of Conrad, IA formerly of State Center, IA passed away Saturday October 23, 2010, at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 29, 2010, at the Beaman United Methodist Church in Beaman. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be in Oakland Cemetery in Beaman. The Johnston Funeral Home in Conrad has been entrusted with the arrangements. John was born July 28, 1912 to Alvin and Anna (Eddington) Glessner in Grant County, IN. He was united in marriage to Ruth I. Sanderson on March 10, 1936 in Marshalltown, IA. John farmed most of his life, but also worked as a carpenter and mason while living in State Center. He and his wife owned and operated the State Center Motel. In his later years he worked as a maintenance foreman for Marshall County Conservation Board, retiring in 1975. He was a long time member of State Center United Methodist Church and a current member of Beaman United Methodist Church. John will be missed by his wife, Ruth, two sons; John Wayne (Judy) Glessner of Marshalltown, IA, Rich R. (Carrie) Glessner of Marshalltown, IA, three grandchildren, John M. Glessner of Victor, CO, Stephanie (John) Chickering of Indianola, IA, Neil (Heather) Glessner of Chatham, IL, one great grandson, Jacob Chickering of Indianola, IA, two step grandchildren, Dale (Heidi) Langenbau of Garwin, IA, Tracy (Randall) Hersom of Urbandale, IA, and four step great grandchildren, Summer, Cole, and Cooper Langenbau, all of Garwin, IA, and Nathan Hersom of Urbandale, IA. He was preceded in death by; his son; Allen Dean, brothers; Carmon and Clyde, and sisters; Margaret, Lova, Ila Mae, Nellie and Kathryn.
