Description	:	Joseph "Joe" Michael McKivergan, 95, of rural Hubbard passed away on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, at Heritage of Emerson Care Center in Emerson, Neb. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hubbard. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Hubbard. Visitation will begin 5 p.m. Thursday, with the family present at 6 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City. Joe was born on the family farm in rural Goodwin, Neb., on July 23, 1919, the son of Mathias and Mary E. (Nichols) McKivergan. He grew up on the family farm, attending country school, and St. Catherine’s Academy in Jackson, Neb. He farmed with his parents before serving in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946, where he served in the South Pacific Theatre during World War II, and came home with seven battle stars. Joe married Charlyne Krause on Oct. 5, 1946, in Struble, Iowa. The couple farmed in rural Dakota County until his retirement in 1983. Joe was a co-founder of the Hubbard Junior Feeders 4-H Club, and was a 4-H Club leader for over 15 years. He was active in the Jackson American Legion Post 175, where he served as post commander, and he also served as county commander. He was also a member of the VFW and the Disabled Veterans, served on the church council and as a cemetery board member for St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Charlyne McKivergan of Hubbard; children, Judith "Judy" A. Bottger of Hubbard, and Terald "Terry" J., and his wife, Kay McKivergan of Yuma, Ariz.; grandchildren, Jeffrey D. Bottger, Joan C. Bottger-Kramer, and Michael Terald and his wife, Maria McKivergan; great-grandchildren, Genevieve Ann Kramer, Joseph Jon Kramer and Marie Anaya McKivergan; sister-in-law, Kay McKivergan of Ponca, Neb.; numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Mathias and Mary McKivergan; a brother, Frank McKivergan; and a sister, Margaret, and her husband, Roland Bousquet. Sioux City (Iowa) Journal March 2, 2015 Joseph's paternal grandfather Michael McKivergan was a member of the Father Trecy Colony that arrived in Dakota County about 1856.
