He had resided in Long Beach fifteen years, his residence being at 1152 Rhea Street, and he was a member of the Long Beach Post No. 181, G.A.R.; Taubman’s Bible Class, the First Christian Church, and the Masons. Dr. George P. Taubman, pastor of the First Christian Church, will conduct the funeral. Interment will be at Central Memorial Park. Surviving the aged veteran are four daughters, Mrs. Edith Walters, Lynwood; Mrs. Mary Pritchett and Mrs. Stella Hocking of River Falls, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Loretta Scott of Corvallis, Montana; three sons, W.S. Bailey of Corvallis, Montana, H.E. Bailey of Minneapolis, and V.L. Bailey of Coquille, Oregon; a sister, Mrs. C.N. Stufflebeam of Waverly, Iowa, and a brother, George Bailey, of Presho, SD; twenty five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Last Member of Local G.A.R. Post Died At Long Beach, Cal, June 1 The I.N. Nichols G.A.R. Post lost its last member June 1, 1933, when Josephus Bailey passed away in Long Beach, Calif. He outlived Mr. Martin Iverson by only three weeks. Previous to Mr. Bailey’s departure to Long Beach about 14 years ago, he and his family made this community their home. He was born in Green County, Wisconsin, June 22, 1843, and after spending his early married life in Cobb, moved into St. Croix County almost 30 years ago. Mr. Bailey is survived by seven children: Mrs. M.R. Pritchett and Mrs. C.R. Hocking of this city; H.E. Bailey, Minneapolis, Minn.; Scott Bailey and Mrs. E.E. Scott (Loretta), Corvallis, Mont.; Mrs. Chas E. Walters (Edith), Compton, Calif.; and Verne Bailey, Coquille, Ore.; and one sister and one brother. His wife and one daughter, Mrs. James Harvey, have preceded him in death. Funeral services were conducted and interment made in Long Beach, Calif, Saturday, June 3, 1933. Josephus Bailey Another old veteran answered the last call when Josephus Bailey, aged Civil War veteran, died at the soldiers’ Hospital, located at Sawtelle, Calif., 12:30 a.m. June 1, 1933. He fell at his home, 1152 Rhea St, on May 19 and broke his leg. On the following Thursday, owing to his advanced age and critical condition, it was thought best to remove him to the hospital where passed quietly to the great beyond. Mr. Bailey was a member of the 1st Christian Church and of the Masonic order, having recently received a life certificate of membership from his home lodge in Wisconsin, being a member in good standing for over fifty years. He has always taken an active part in the G.A.R. post and was also a member of the Blue and the Grey, an order composed of veterans from both Civil War armies. He was a man to command confidence and respect and always took an active part in the affairs of state filling important offices in both town and county where he has resided. Mr. Bailey was born on a farm in Green County, Wisconsin, June 22, 1843. Married to Miss Mehitable Cunningham, September 9, 1867 at Mineral Point, Wisconsin, and moved at once to a farm near Cobb. They continued active farm life in Iowa County until 1903 when he sold out and moved to River Falls and bought two other farms, thinking to give his children a chance to make homes for themselves. His wife died at River Falls, January 13, 1906. The surviving relatives are, Homer Bailey, Minneapolis, Scott Bailey, Corvallis, Montana, Vern Bailey, Coquille, Oregon, Mrs. Pritchett, Mrs. Hocking of River Falls, Wisconsin, Mrs. Scott of Corvallis, Montana, and Mrs. Walters of Compton, Calif, one brother, George Bailey of Presho, SD, one sister, Mrs. Stufflebeam of Waverly, Iowa, twenty five grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and a host of friends for he was a man always to command respect and confidence in his friends, and associates The funeral was conducted at the Mottell Chapel, Saturday, June 2, at 3 p.m. Dr. Geo.
