They both were translated into English for my aunt Katheryne (Stava) Spidell in 1980. ********************************************************* Sunday, July 12, (1914), Katerina Stava died, old settler, reached the age of 79. Katerina Stava was born at Hrotovivivh, Moravia, came to America with her husband Martin Stava, who provided a home and who predeceased his wife 2 1/2 years ago at the age of 87 years. The Stavas came into this new country in the year 1874 and suffered many hardships at the beginning of their life here and had a good life in later years. Children they raised were 4 sons and 2 daughters. Of the sons Vaclav (James) and Jan (John) owned farms and farmed in the state of Minnesota. Frank owns a ranch near Rushville, NE. Martin owns two farms in the state of Missouri and in the recent year bought a farm near Plattsmouth, NE where he now lives. son Karel (Carl) lives in the home where his mother died on his farm 1/2 mile from Bruno, NE. Of the daughters, Jennie lives in Seattle, WA, and the other, Marie, lives on the Chas. J. Stava farm which son Joseph owns and farms. Funeral service is on Monday at 3 o'clock in the afternoon from the church St Anthony. Burial at the Catholic cemetery among relatives and friends. Funeral services at the church and at the cemetery were in charge of Rev. Zalud. Our deepest sympathy goes out in your sorrow. Sincerely F.R.O. ___________________________________________________________ ANNOUNCEMENT OF DEATH AND THANKS With aching heart an announcement is made to relatives and friends if the departure to where there is no return (death) of our precious mother and grandmother KATERINA STAVOVA who at age 79 earned perpetual sleep (passed away) Sunday 12th of July (1914) about 5 o'clock in the afternoon, placed for eternal rest at the Catholic cemetery 13th of July. She was born in Hrotovivivh, Moravia, and moved to America with her family in the year 1874. For so many acts of kindness and actions of sympathy during our great sorrow, we give our heartfelt thanks for the visits of friends and relatives during her illness and for attending the funeral. Thanks to Rev. Zalud for the sympathetic service for the sad occasion. Our thanks to Mrs. Jakub Stava and her daughter Agnes Stava for their patience during her illness and at the funeral. Also, we thank Mrs. Bacak, Mrs. Kinter, Mrs. Calhoun, and Mrs. Stava for their help at the casket, and Mr. Ed Niva for help at the funeral. Once more, our heartfelt thanks to all dear friends, you can be sure we'll never forget your love. For every kindness Chas. Stava Bruno, NE 21 of July 1914. ********************************************************** THE OBITUARY BELOW WAS PRINTED IN THE Butler County Press (David City, Nebr.), July 16, 1914, p. 1, col. 7 Lived to Ripe Old Age BRUNO, July 14 - Mrs. Kathrina Stava, for many years an esteemed resident of this locality, passed away Sunday, July 12, aged 89 years. She was born in Moravia in 1825 and came to the United States in 1874. She is survived by five sons and two daughters. The sons are James and John Stava, prosperous farmers in Minnesota, Frank Stava, overseer of a large ranch near Rushville, Nebr., Martin Stava, owner of two farms near Windsor, Missouri, and residing at Plattsmouth, Nebr., and Charles Stava, living near Bruno, overseer of a farm in Butler county. Two of the daughters live in Seattle, Wash. Mrs. Stava died at her home one mile west of Bruno at 8 p. m. on Sunday, July 12, after an illness of several months duration. She had been blind for almost a year. The funeral services were held in St. Anthony's Catholic church here on Monday at 3 p. m. and were conducted by Rev. Father Zalud. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery. But two of her children were able to get here in time to attend the funeral. ************************************************************
