Information found in the Montgomery County Court House, Red Oak, Iowa, death records, book 1939-1949, page 161 Funeral services were held here Tuesday for Mrs. Thomas J. Gourley, 80, who died Sunday at her home on West Fourth Street. The serves were conducted by the Rev. G. P. McClean of the Presbyterian Church at Malvern and he was assisted by Rev. F. W. Thompson of the local Presbyterian Church. Pall bearers were Arthur Talbot,Don Anderson, Wm. Brodrick, Fredrick Fisher, Kay Wheeler, and Howard Cooney. Mrs.H. H. Nordyke and Mrs. Lester Scott were singers and they were accompanied by Mrs. Francis Wheeler. The deceased, Laura Emma Kyle, youngest daughter of Allen and Anna Brillhart Kyle was born near Freeport, Illinois on August 20, 1891. She came with her family when they crossed the plains from Illinois to California in covered ago. After coming west, the Kyle family spent four years in South Dakota and moved to Iowa in 1874, settling on a farm northwest of Villisca. Miss Kyle was married to Thomas J. Gourley here on March 12, 1879, and the couple spent their remaining years in this vicinity, leaving their farm in 1921 to make a home in Villisca Mr. Gourley died in 1933. Mrs. Gouley is survived by her three children, Mrs. C. L. Kunce, Malvern, Louis T. Gourley, Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Fletcher W. Gourley, Idaho Falls, Idaho.
