Read More	LAWRENCE CAIN, 52, RETIRED COUNTY FARM STEWARD, DIES Lawrence Cain, 52, who resigned Thursday as steward of the Cerro Gordo County Farm, died Monday morning at his home at the farm, where he had been overseer since 1946. As steward, Cain had had the responsibility of the entire management of the farm operation and partial responsibility for the records of patients. He was cited by a national farm magazine for his outstanding achievements in both agriculture and service to the citizens of this county. He was also awarded the first Master Farmer Exceptional Service Award, sponsored by Wallace’s Farmer Magazine. Mr. Cain was born March 25, 1909, at Lisbon, North Dakota, son of Ernest and Elizabeth (Gilmore) Cain. He attended schools in Mason City and was graduated from the Mason City High School and the University of Iowa. He was married to Miss Loraine Kelly, October 9, 1940, at Holy Family Church. They lived in West Union until he entered the U.S. Army in September 1941. He served with the medical corps as first lieutenant at Camp Barclay, Texas, and at the Army General Hospital at Atlantic City as assistant to the chief surgeon. In June 1946 he received his discharge and made his home with an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. P. J. McGuire, steward and matron of the farm, who preceded him in death. Mr. Cain was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the senior choir of the church and the Knights of Columbus Council 1006 of Mason City. He was also past president of the Stewards and Matrons Association of Iowa and a past president of Dairy Herd Improvement Association. Surviving are his wife, two nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The Hogan-McKee Colonial Funeral Home is in charge. Mason City Globe Gazette, Monday, December 18, 1961 **In the December 19th, Globe Gazette, it said burial would be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery at Dougherty.
