Description	:	Letha M. Gabriel was born October 28, 1854 to Joseph Stewart and Else Jane Cunningham Gabriel, near Postville, in Green County, Wisconsin. December 23, 1875 she married Fred Levi Ames, son of Obediah and Sarah Ames, in a religious ceremony at Monticello, Wisconsin. They lived in York, Wisconsin where Fred was engaged in farming until the fall of 1884 when they moved to Sutton in Clay County, Nebraska. They lived in York, Wisconsin where Fred was engaged in farming until the fall of 1884 when they moved to Sutton in Clay County, Nebraska. The lived in Sutton until 1905 when they moved to Newberg, Oregon. She was diagnosed with a heart condition in 1911. Finding no permanent relief in Oregon, she and her husband traveled to find a more suitable climate. They visited Montana, North Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska. They visited in Lake City in 1914 then traveled to Normal, Nebraska where Fred's brother, Elwyn, and his wife reside. Mrs. Ames' condition worsened and she was taken to the Green Gables Sanatorium. She remained there for about a year without her condition improving. On October 23, 1915, after much suffering, she passed away. Letha Ames was a member of the Methodist Church in Sutton, a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Women's Relief Corps in Newburg. She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, her son, Theodore J. Ames of Kay Cee, Wyoming, and a daughter, Miss Mina Ames, who remains with her father to comfort and console him. Three brothers survive her, George L. Gabriel of Omaha, Nebraska; Rodney C. Gabriel of Des Moines, Iowa; and John H. Gabriel of Denver, Colorado. Four sisters are living: Mrs. Granville (Mary Jane) Smith, Mrs. Mark (Mariah) Chapman, and Mrs. Philetus (Louella) Peebles all of Lake City, and Mrs. C.A. (Hula) Hansen of Long Beach, California. Besides these, many more distant relatives grieve her departure, also a multitude of friends. Funeral services were held in Normal, Nebraska at the home of Mrs. Elwyn Ames on October 26, conducted by the Rev. Ralph Miller of the Methodist Church. The body was then taken to Lake City where, on October 27 at 10 a.m., the last services were held at the home of her sister, Mrs. Granville Smith, the Rev. A.H. Bryan of the Methodist Church in charge of the services. Beautiful music was rendered by the ladies quartet of the church. Interment was in the Lake City Cemetery.
