Description	:	Lt., U.S. Navy, WW II, Korea. He and his wife, Anne Roan Drummond, a former U.S. Navy WAVE, settled in the City of Fairfax in 1955, where he had been reassigned to Washington, D.C. as an aerologist and weather observer. He served several tours in Antarctica in Operation Deep Freeze, and has a geographical feature (Drummond Peak), named for him. He retired from the Navy in 1969 and became a Magistrate for the Commonwealth of Virginia in Fairfax County. He retired in 1984. He was a track and football star in high school, and while in college, at the age of 20, he joined the U.S. Navy in March of 1941. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, he was deployed to the South Pacific where he served aboard the Orca, a sea plane that survived several battles, including kamikaze attacks. He was recipient of the Navy Unit Commendation Medal, the Navy Good Conduct Medal with five stars, American Defense, American Theater, with three stars, the World War II Victory, the World War II Occupation (Pacific) American defense Service Medal, the Philippine Liberation with two stars, and the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Nancy Drummond Ewing; sons, Bruce Nelson Drummond & Brian Carter Drummond; two grandchildren, Joseph Roan Drummond & Kerry Drummond Santos of New Jersey; two great-granddaughters, Kathleen "Katie" Drummond & Erin Drummond; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Katie, in 1975. Graveside services were conducted on Friday, January 23, 2009.
