Her funeral service will be 2:30 PM Friday, February 16, 2007 at the Bowdle Church of God with Rev Ron Vetch officiating. Burial will follow at German Zion Congregational Cemetery, Tolstoy, SD. Haar, 79, Bowdle, SD, died Monday, February 12, 2007 at the Bowdle Nursing Home. Her funeral service will be 2:30 PM Friday, February 16, 2007 at the Bowdle Church of God with Rev Ron Vetch officiating. Burial will follow at German Zion Congregational Cemetery, Tolstoy, SD. Lucille Mabel Hettich, daughter of Anna (Perman) and Christ C. Hettich, was born March 13, 1927 on a farm north of Tolstoy. She was raised and educated near Tolstoy. While in the 7th grade, Lucille's mother took ill. That ended Lucille's formal education as she was needed at home to care for the family and help on the farm. She married Ervin Haar at the Tolstoy United Methodist Church on November 4, 1945. They first settled on a farm 19 ½ miles SE of Bowdle. In the spring of 1952, they moved to Lucille's parents farm NE of Tolstoy. In 1954, Ervin's dad retired and they moved to his farm 18 miles SE of Bowdle. In 1987, Ervin and Lucille semi-retired and moved into Bowdle. With the exception of wintering down south for ten years, Lucille lived the remainder of her life in Bowdle. Ervin died December 31, 1999 and since June 19, 2006, Lucille had lived at the Bowdle Nursing Home. She was an active and involved member of the Bowdle Church of God. Lucille enjoyed oil painting and playing skip-bo with her friends. She was a prolific crocheter as there are afghans created by Lucille in almost every state in the union and several foreign countries. She will be remembered as a hard worker whose German baking and cooking were second to none. Lucille is survived by 2 sons—Evan D. (Sandy) Haar of Onaka, SD and Niel (Carol) Haar of Bowdle; 1 daughter Rita A. (Lyle) Huber of Bowdle; 2 brothers--Harlin (Ardella) Hettich of Tolstoy and Lloyd (Elaine) Hettich of Onaka; 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father on August 8, 1958, her mother on December 29, 1993, her husband, 2 brothers (James and an infant), 2 infant sisters, and 1 infant granddaughter. Honorary bearers will be Taran Ingalls and Eric Haar of Belle Fourche, SD, Chad Haar, Cody Haar, and Joell Bieber of Bowdle, Kevin Huber of Columbus, Ohio, and Nicole Carver of Weisbaden, Germany. Casketbearers will be Weylin Huber of Warner, SD, Brent Huber and Erick Bieber of Bowdle, Jerry Brickner of Hoven, SD, Tim Haar of Bismarck, ND., and Gaven Banik of Sioux Falls, SD. Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle, is in charge of arrangements.
