BEHRENDS DIED SATURDAY Funeral Services at Reformed Church Monday Afternoon Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Mrs. Ben B. Behrends, who died at the John McDonald hospital Saturday, April 4, at 4 a.m. She had been in failing health for several months. Short services were held at the Goettsch funeral home and at 2 p.m. at the Reformed church, Monday. Rev. Armin H. Tendick, Reformed pastor, had charge of the services, and burial was made at Oakwood cemetery. The maiden name of Mrs. Behrends was Margaret Kathryn Lubben. She was born in Reepsholt, Ostfriesland, Germany, Dec. 31, 1876. Her parents were John and Maria Lubben, and came to the United States with her people at the age of five years. She therefore had lived for more than sixty years in Monticello and vicinity. She was married in August, 1902 to Ben B. Behrends, who died fifteen years ago. She was the mother of eleven children of her own and six stepchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four children, Arthur, Edward, Carl,and Fred. The living children include Herman, William, Clarence, Henry and Ben Behrends, Mrs. James Veitch and Mrs. Earl Pierce, Monticello; Lavern Behrends, Fort Lawton, Wash.; Mrs. Alvin Swartz, Mrs. Julius Mueller and George Behrends, Cedar Rapids; Otto Behrends, Hastings, Minn., and Mrs. Leonard Long, Aberdeen, S. D. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. James Skelley, Monticello, and Mrs. Charles Wright Sioux City; one brother, Henry Lubben, Cedar Rapids, and twenty three grandchildren.
