Interment will be held in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege, Nebraska, prior to the services with Chaplain DeWane Dow conducting the committal. The Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege is in charge of the arrangements. Marvin David Arehart, 92 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2017, at Chrisoma West in Holdrege. Marvin was born January 22, 1925, on the family farm in Harlan County, Nebraska, the second of three sons born to Yura Lyman and Mary Lovelia (Habben) Arehart. He received his education from Ragan Public School, graduating with the class of 1942. He then pursued higher education at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln until being called home to help on the family farm during WW II. While at UNL, Marvin was involved in ROTC. On September 8, 1945, he was united in marriage to Mary Esther Kitt at the First Baptist Church in Omaha Nebraska and to this union four children were born: Susan, David, Nina and Brock. The family made their home on the family farm south of Wilcox, where Marvin engaged in his lifelong passion of farming and ranching. The family then moved to Wichita, Kansas, for a year, where he was employed by Boeing. They returned home to Nebraska, where Marvin continued to farm in Harlan and Franklin Counties for over 50 years. Marvin was also a builder, welder, and used his inventor skills on the farm quite often. He built his own cattle trailer, various farm and ranching equipment, and even a camper for his family for their vacations. Marvin also built several additions to their home for their growing family throughout the years. In 1990, Marvin and Mary began to make their home in Wilcox and in 2010, they moved to Chrisoma West. Mary preceded him in death on September 4, 2014. They were long time members of the Pleasant View Christian Church, south of Wilcox, where Marvin served in many capacities. Marvin and Mary helped start the first school for developmentally disabled children in Nebraska and were very active members in Gideon’s International Ministry. Besides his parents, and wife, Mary, Marvin was preceded in death by son-in-law, Melvin Falk; two brothers: Roland Arehart and his wife, Jacque, and Levi Arehart and his wife, Phyllis; and three additional sisters-in-law: Wanda Kitt and Lucille Kitt at a young age and Una (Kitt) Nelson and her husband, Norman. Marvin leaves to celebrate his life; his four children: Susan Falk of Wilcox, David Arehart of Holdrege, Nina Putnam and her husband, Ed of Holdrege, and Brock Arehart and his special friend, Andrew Brackett of Kearney, Nebraska; five grandchildren: Lynn Lebsack and her husband, Grant of Kearney, Karla Steele and her husband, Trent of Papillion, Nebraska, Mark Putnam and his wife, Kelly of York, Nebraska, Ryan Putnam and his wife, Jessica of Shelley, Idaho and Amy Jessop and her husband, Nick of Grand Island, Nebraska; eight great-grandchildren: Elliott and Beatrice Lebsack, Bennett and Kitt Steele, Anna and Dante Jessop, Julian Hyde and Domonick Putnam; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other dear relatives and friends.
