Highland Recorder May 28, 1948 Mrs. Wade H. Darby passed away Tuesday morning at the K.D. Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. L.L. Quidore, and is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. L.N. (Susanna) Springston and two sisters, Mrs. Ella Welsh of Churchville and Miss Ida Quidore. She had been a faithful member of the Presbyterian church for many years, also in the auxiliary and will be missed not only in her home and church but in the community. Services will be held Friday at 11 o’clock at the Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. George Rector and assisted by Rev. L.O. Rose. Staunton Spectator & Vindicator June 12, 1908 Young Lady is Missing Monterey, Va., June 4 — Considerable concern and alarm prevails at McDowell over the mysterious disappearance of a popular and highly esteemed young lady of that village. Miss Mamie Quidore, daughter of the late Dr. Quidore, who made her home with her widowed mother at McDowell, and who is one of Highland's successful teachers in the public schools, left three weeks ago for Staunton. She was directed to do some shopping for her mother while there and was expected to return in a few days. The merchandise was purchased and sent to her mother by the Staunton hack line two days later, but the young lady did not return and sent no message. Upon inquiry it was ascertained that she had left the Palmer House, saying she was going to Basic City and Roanoke, and further investigation proved that two tickets were purchased by her, the one at Staunton, the other at Basic City. Beyond this no trace of her can be gotten. Her mother, an estimable lady, and a native of Highland county, has made every effort to learn her whereabouts or fate, but has failed utterly, and is almost crazed over the situation. Foul play is feared. Miss Quidore was a lady of neat, prepossessing appearance, tall and slender, about twenty-one years of age, and had with her when she disappeared cash amounting lo something like $30. Highland Recorder June 5, 1908 No word or tidings have come to the unhappy family as to the whereabouts of Miss Mamie Quidore, who left her home at McDowell, on the stage for Staunton about three weeks ago. Highland Recorder June 26, 1908 Miss Mayme Quidore has accepted a position at Asheville, N.C., and will remain throughout the summer.
