Description	:	Boone County Democrat September 9, 1910 Mrs. T.A. Johnston died at her residence, 1916 Story street, on Monday after a long illness at the advanced age of eighty four years. The deceased had been seriously ill for several weeks past and it was known by the members of the family that the end was near. She was surrounded by all her children when the end came. The deceased had been seriously ill for several weeks past and it was known by the members of the family that the end was near. She was surrounded by all her children when the end came. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 o’clock from the house and 2:00 o’clock from the First Baptist church. Rev. Heaps officiated and the remains were laid to rest in the East Linwood cemetery. Mrs. Johnston, nee Mary Ann Atwood, was born in Muskingum county, Ohio, July 17, 1826. She spent her childhood days in that state and on June 15, 1848, was united in marriage to Thomas A. Johnston. They resided in Ohio until 1855 when they came to Wapello county, Iowa. In 1861 they came to Boone county and settled near Ridgeport. In 1866 they moved on the old homestead which was her home for forty two years. In February, 1909, she moved to this city and since then has lived with her daughter, Kate. Her husband passed away in September, 1898. The following children are left to mourn her death: James A. of Stanhope, A.C. of Mackey, H.P. of Emmetsburg, John W., T.A. and S.P. of Boone, Mrs. H.H. Sample of Curlew and Kate at home. One daughter whom she raised from childhood, Mrs. H.E. Cole, resides in Dodge township. The death of the deceased will give sorrow to many of our citizens, especially the older residents, who knew her and her family in early years and always had a warm friendship for the family. The deceased in early years untied with the Baptist church was a faithful and conscientious member to the end.
