"Mac" Beasley, 75, died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, at Riverside Regional Medical Center. A native of Fines Creek, N.C., he had been a Peninsula resident for 56 years. Mr. Beasley was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific. He was formerly employed by Newport News Shipbuilding in the Sheet Metal Department for 18 years. He retired from NASA as an engineering technician in 1981 after 23 years of service. He was a past member of Gloucester Country Club and former member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Clyde, N.C. Survivors include his wife, Myrtle R. Beasley; his daughter, Sandra K. Hicks of Yorktown; three sons, Gary R. Beasley and Donald R. Beasley, both of Yorktown, and Jerry R. Beasley of Richmond; three sisters, Georgia Temple of Virginia and Pearl Trantham and Maggie Trantham, both of North Carolina; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Rudy Tucker and the Rev. Rita Staul. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to Tommy Jobe Scholarship Fund, c/o Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church, 1024 Harpersville Road, Newport News, Va. 23601.
