AP) — Myron Wittke, 19, of Byron, Neb., died in a Fairbury hospital Tuesday of injuries suffered in a motorcycle mishap Sunday, Deputy Sheriff Claude Young of Thayer County reported. Young said the Wittke youth and Dennis Atenham, 19, of Deshler had borrowed the foreign-make cycle from William Reinke of Byron and were driving it on Highway 3 about 3 miles west of Deshler. Young said young Wittke, not familiar with the machine, lost control and went off the road. Atenham suffered minor injuries. The death raised Nebraska's traffic fatality toll for the year to 230, as against 207 at this time last year. ================== The Belleville Telescope (Belleville, KS), Thursday, October 9, 1958; pg. 18 Myron Frederick Wittke Myron Frederick Wittke was born April 1, 1939, to Henry R. Wittke and wife, Frieda nee Kroeger, at Fort Riley, Kan. He was baptized in Immanuel Lutheran church (sic), Junction City, Kan., on April 16, 1939. When 16 months old the family moved to Columbus Ga., where they stayed 20 months and were transferred to Fort Smith, Ark., living there one year. In May 1943, the family moved to Byron where they have been ever since. Myron with his family was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church (sic), Byron, and was duly instructed in the Christian faith and on August 30, 1953, was confirmed. He was faithful in church attendance and in partaking of the Lord's supper. All of Myron's schooling was in Byron where he graduated from the Byron rural high school May, 1957. While in high school he became quite well known as a regular on the basketball team which won the Nebraska Class E championship 1957. Since his graduation he worked for the Richard Reinke Construction company where he was employed until his death Sunday September 21, he was injured when about two miles west of Deshler, the motorcycle he was riding overturned. He was taken to the Lynch hospital, Fairbury, where he passed away Tuesday, September 23, never having regained consciousness after the accident. He had reached the age of 19 years, 5 months and 22 days. He leaves to mourn his passing, his parents, a brother, Rolla Gene of Fort Eustes, Va.; two sisters, Darlene and Nancy; a grandmother, Mrs. Sophia Kroeger, all of Byron; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Lutheran church (sic) Friday, September 26 at 2 p.m. Interment was in St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery (sic), Byron. Services were conducted by the Pastor Dennis D. Mueller.
