The deceased, nancy Jane mehaffey, the second oldest daughter of George and Catherine Lloyd, was born in Jordan Township, Warren County, Indiana, may 18, 1857, and died of pneumonia at the family residence a few minutes past six o'clock, Thursday morning, January 3, 1907. On March 2, 1876, she married to Edward A. Mehaffey and to them were born seven children, six of whom survive her, a son dying in infancy. The surviving children are Carl A., Grace E., Emma B., Goldie L., Sylvia C., and Raymond H. She was always a true and dutiful wife and a kind and loving mother. But she has shuffiled off this mortal coil and gone to a fairer home. Her chair at the table is vacant, but the love that flourished in the hearts of her loving husband and children shall wax stronger and stronger. The fond memories and loving deeds that she bestowed upon her family will be recorded in their hearts and will go down in everlasting recollection for the one who was a loving mother to her children, a true wife to her husband, and whose motto all through life was to " do unto others as she wished to be done by." Mrs Mehaffey was always a believer in the Christian faih, and was an every day christian; she bore her suffering with a persevereance and determination that certainly showed the faith she had in a Supreme Power. " A mother's love --how sweet the name! What is a mother's love? A noble, pure and tender flame, Enkindled from above, To bless a heart of earthly mold; The warmest love that can't grow cold; This is a mother's love." The funeral services were held in the Methodist church at Pence at two o'clock p.m. , January 4, 1907. Rev. Hicks of the same church, officiating. Interment was made in the Goodwine cemetery , north of Pence. The pallbearers were, Geo. Keister, James Moyer, Clarence Thomas, Jerry Cole, William Cole and Andrew Swain.
