William,3 Love,2 Elder William Brewster,1] On June 29, 1780 at the Scotland Society Church then in Windham, Nathan Wales m. Rosamond Robinson, dau. of Peter Robinson 3rd and Abigail Palmer. Rosamond was b. Aug. 26, 1756 at Windham, Conn. where she d. Mar. 14, 1849, Æ 93. She was a 6th generation descendant of Rev. John Robinson and Bridget White, the former the pastor at Leiden, Holland of the core Pilgrims that resided at Leiden from 1611-1620 and sailed on the Mayflower, including Nathan's ancestor Elder William Brewster. Separately, Rosamond was also a lineal descendant of Mayflower passenger Edward Fuller and his unnamed wife. Per NEHGS Register 71 (July 1917): 209, inventoried by Joel N. Enos, A.M., prior to 1917: • Nathan Wales died Oct. 23, 1815 aged 59 years. • Rosamond his wife died March 14, 1849 aged 92 Years 7m. 17 years later in 1934 as part of the Conn. State Library's statewide transcription of all known Conn. cemeteries (the Hale Conn. Cemetery Database), on Dec. 19, 1934 Ellison S. Smith transcribed Nathan and Rosamond's common gravestone exactly as had Joel Enos in 1917, At face value, Smith read Nathan and Rosamond's independently and directly from the gravestone: Wales, Nathan, died Oct. 23, 1815, age 69 yrs. Wales, Rosamond, wife of Nathan Wales, died Mar. 14, 1849, age 92 yrs, 7mos. As reflected by their newly found original common gravestone, the gravestone of Nathan and wife Rosamond was erected after they both died; i.e., in or after 1849. By that time the meaning of the word "aged" on gravestones had been forgotten; that is, when Nathan died in 1815 he was actually "Aged" (Ætatis, Æ) 60, and 59 chronological years old. Thus, this common gravestone substantiates that Nathan was the son of Nathaniel and Grace (Brewster) Wales since no other Nathan or Nathaniel Wales was b. of record at Windham remotely near the year 1756. Nathan & wife Rosamond had six children recorded at Windham: • i. Nancy Wales, b. Mar. 15, 1781 and d. Jan. 17, 1850; m. Darius Hicks of Pomfret, Conn., who d. June 22, 1842. Two children of the family, but neither left descendants. • ii. Fanny Wales, a twin, b. Mar. 25, 1784 and d. Dec. 21, 1809 leaving no known children; m. Elisha Hebard (q.v. Hebbard) of Hampton, Conn. • iii. Philena Wales, a twin, b. Mar. 25, 1784; m. Nov. 7, 1824 at Windham, Nathaniel Ripley, s. of Joshua Ripley & Elizabeth Lothrop (Benjamin,4 Capt. Hope,3), b. at Windham Feb. 14, 1768. • iv. Nathaniel Wales, b. Jan. 16, 1786, d. 1828; m. at Windham Feb. 16, 1809, Nancy Fitch, dau. of Eleazer Fitch & Sybil Bass, b. at Windham July 16, 1785 where he d. in 1842. One known child of the family, but perhaps others. • v. Peter Wales, b. Sept. 28, 1791, d. at Windham Feb. 6, 1874, Æ 83; m. at Windham Jan. 15, 1824, Sarah "Sally" Perry, dau of Benjamin, who d. at Windham June 18, 1880, Æ 81. Seven known children of the family. • vi. Jerusha Wales, b. Dec. 11, 1798, d. Dec. 12, 1881 at Hampton, Conn., Æ 84; m. at Windham Apr. 20, 1831 as his 2nd wife, Thomas Grow, s. of Dea.
