His death occurred at Aurora, Nebraska on April 29, 1978 following an illness of a few hours at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 22 days. His early life was spent in the vicinity of his birth. He attended Western Normal College in Shenandoah, Iowa, was a graduate from Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa. Following graduation he taught for a short time at Kellogg, Iowa. On August 17, 1916 he was united in marriage to Helena Elliott. They were the parents of 3 daughters, one of which died in infancy. They resided in Union, Iowa with the exception of 15 years spent in Aurora, Nebraska where they now resided. He was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church both in Iowa and Aurora in which he took an active part. He is a lifetime member of the Historical Society Union County and very active in boy scouts. He and Helena would have celebrated their 62nd anniversary in August. He was devoted to his church and his family. His survivors are his wife Helena, two daughters, Marian Jones of Yakima, Washington and Betty Penner of Aurora, Nebraska and their husbands, two grandsons, three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, his parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and 1 great-grandson.
