Description	:	Joseph was born February 1888 in South Dakota, and lived with his father August and step-mother Lozetta on their farm. He received first communion at Sacred Heart Church , Aberdeen SD, June 13th 1901 and was confirmed at St Wilfred Church, Woonsocket, SD by Rev Thomas O'Gorman, D.?. on July 16,1901. "Father Joe" was ordained to the priesthood on June 8, 1915. He was the 2nd native South Dakotan to enter the priesthood. His first assignment was to Immaculate Conception Church, Watertown, SD as an assistant pastor under Reverend W. O'Hara. While an assistant he organized a new church at Florence (Blessed Sacrament) and actually lived there for two years from 1919 to 1921. He then was transferred to St. Ann's in Geddes, SD and then to St Agatha's in Howard, SD in 1934. In 1945, upon the death of Rev. O'Hara, Fr. Joe became the pastor at Immaculate Conception Parish, Watertown, SD. As pastor Fr. Veeser witnessed a tremendous growth in the parish necessitating a second parish (Holy Name) to be built on the north side of town. In addition, a Catholic hospital was built in Watertown. In 1960, Father Veeser was appointed as a domestic prelate of the Roman Catholic Church and the title of monsignor was conferred upon him by Pope John XXIII in August , 1960. On June 8, 1965, fifty years to the day after becoming a priest, Fr. Joe suffered a massive stroke in the rectory of Immaculate Conception Church. He was confined to the hospital but rallied only momentarily.
