Mr. Ferris was a 75-year member of Fairview United Methodist Church, he was named the 1981 Stockman of the Year by Lone Tree Rodeo Association, served on District 51 School Board, was a member of the Merrick County Noxious Weed Board, a member of the Merrick County Fair Board, was a 4-H leader, belonged to a pinochle group for 40 years, enjoyed woodworking, fishing, traveling and bowling. -------------------------------------- Rexford Lee Ferris, 85, of Central City, Nebraska, died at his home on Tuesday, May 26, 1998. Mr. Ferris was born on March 15, 1913 in Merrick County to Lee J. and Evaline A. Hathaway Ferris. He attended District 23 school and graduated from Central City High School in 1931. After completing school, he farmed with his father until his marriage to Donna Severance on March 9, 1937. Mr. and Mrs. Ferris then began their own farming operation and were innovators in mechanical and agricultural technology. Mr. Ferris retired in 1980, but continued to take an active interest in the farming operation until his death. Mr. Ferris was a 75-year member of Fairview United Methodist Church. He was named the 1981 Stockman of the Year by Lone Tree Rodeo Association, served on District 51 School Board, was a member of the Merrick County Noxious Weed Board, a member of the Merrick County Fair Board, was a 4-H leader, belonged to a pinochle group for 40 years, enjoyed woodworking, fishing, traveling, bowling, and was especially interested in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Central City; three sons; David (Ruth) Ferris and Stanley (Gail) Ferris, both of Central City, and Steve Ferris of Lincoln, Nebraska; and one daughter, Julie (Richard) Bringelson of Grand Island; two brothers, Elwin (Lucile) Ferris of Central City; George (Kathryn) Ferris of Archer, Nebraska; two sisters, Vivian (David) Sander of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and Iris Metz of Morton, Illinois; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
