He lived most of his life in East Helena. Bob (Clatch, known by his East Helena family) attended the East Helena schools and Helena High. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Dec. 8, 1965, and served most of his tour of duty in Rhoda, Spain. He was discharged on May 12, 1969.
Bob married Alberta Jeray in 1969 and had one daughter, Julie Anne (Cliff), and children, Ryan and Hallie, who survive in Belgrade.
Bob married Terry (Steffan) Carlson on Oct. 30, 1976, in Helena. He worked for Asarco for a combined total of 13 years. He worked many miscellaneous jobs around the Helena area (as Bob always said "whatever it took to put food on the table") including Town Pump in East Helena, and he retired from the City of East Helena in March 2003 after 14 years of service. He made many friends and was known around town as "Uncle Bob" thanks to his two nieces, Phileshia and Kyleen.
"Clatch" was a member of the American Legion Post 2. He along with Don Christiansen, Pat Meehan, and other members, have cooked the veterans breakfast at the American Legion Post Breakfast for several years, but he had to stop doing it the last couple of years due to health problems.
Bob enjoyed helping other people. He never hesitated when friends, residents of East Helena, or family called and needed help with anything. The last couple of years he spent his time watching TV.
Bob is survived by wife, Terry; stepchildren, Sandi (Scott) McDonald and Jagger; Karen (Kevin) Horne and Ashley, Jessie, Tyler and Dacia; Lance (Laurie) Carlson and Coty, Amber and Travis; his father, Leo St. Clair; sister, Wendy (Phil) Dolan; brothers, Donald (special friend, Dundee Warden); Kevin (Brenda) St. Clair; brother-in-law, Wayne (Myrna) Steffan of Carlsbad, New Mexico. Bob was also survived by nieces, nephews, and many cousins in the East Helena area and other places.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elma St. Clair; aunt and uncles, Leola and Bert Halverson, Ken St. Clair; his grandparents and cousins.
Memorial services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 10, at the Retz Funeral Home Chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Hospice of St. Peter's, 2475 Broadway, Helena, MT 59601 |
