He was involved in the preparation for the invasion of Japan when the bomb was dropped and the war ended. His wife Walt worked as an electrician in aircraft manufacturing during the war. She always hinted that she worked on the aircraft that was instrumental in bringing her husband home. The story has since become family lore.
